Turkey Trip '09

The Troop went off on our annual “Turkey Trip” for Thanksgiving under very unusual; weather conditions - it was nice and sunny out! This was a challenge for the Rainmakers, but we all did the best we could.

We held our Inter-Patrol Olympics and everyone had fun.  ASPL Michael kept things organized and kept track of the points, and our Leadership Corps each ran their own stations for the contest. Michael did Wilderness Survival, Dylan had First Aid, Matt had Knots and the EDGE system, and Ben challenged everyone’s teamwork skills.  There was also a dessert contest and a breakfast contest. On Sunday Scoutmaster Steve and Assistant Scoutmaster Ed set up a regulation orienteering course and the Patrols all had to find their way with map and compass.  The Best time was Matt and Ryan, in a remarkable 20 minutes! Check the Scoreboard for the current standings.

The highlight of the trip was our annual Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner. We had plenty of guests this year to help us eat, since we had visitors from several different Cub Packs. Each Second Year Webelos became a temporary member of a Patrol and did all of the competitions with the Scouts.  Everyone had fun and made new friends, and a few Webelos even camped overnight with us. Because there were so many hungry Scouts this year we set a new record and roasted 8 turkeys! Special thanks go out to the Turkey Brigade who performed a daring turkey rescue when one of the ropes started to burn!

We all offered thanks, led by our Troop Chaplain’s Aide Billy, and then following a troop tradition everyone who wanted to had the opportunity to express something they were thankful for.  We had a great dinner and a campfire, led by MC Eddie who lit the fire with a flaming arrow!  This was the best Turkey Trip yet!

Special thanks to the many adult volunteers who made this trip possible for our boys and our guests: Scoutmaster Steve, Assistant Scoutmasters Art, Ed, Mike V, Mike F, Theo, and Tobi, and Committee Members Andrea, Kathy, Paul, and Jeff.
