Senior Patrol Leader Andrew spotted a newspaper story the Wednesday before Thanksgiving abut a shortage of turkeys at the area food pantries, and decided that something had to be done. He organized a rush Turkey Drive with the cooperation of the Wantagh Schools and the whole Theodore Roosevelt Council. The troop pitched in to help collect the Turkeys, which were all donated to the Interfaith Nutrition Network (The INN). We collected over 250 turkeys in just a couple of days! We also got a lot of publicity for this good deed. We were on News 12 and there was a story in Newsday with a picture of the whole Troop and the truck full of turkeys. Andrew was also featured in a story on Channel 2 CBS news, wearing his red Troop 189 t-shirt! |
