Scoutmasters Letter

August 2008

Dear Scouts and Scout Families of Troop 189:

I知 looking forward to a great Scouting year, and your Patrol Leaders Council has lots of great things planned.  If you look at this years schedule, you値l see some new camping destinations along with some old favorites, with a number of highlights throughout the year.

We値l be starting off the year in the Northern Catskills, visiting Artists Rock and Kaaterskill Falls. For something new this year, we値l be ending with a trip to the historic Civil War battlefields of Gettysburg Pennsylvania.  I guarantee a year full of adventure!

The adventure can take many forms, not just going new places.  Every year thousands of boys in Scouting learn the adventure of Leadership for the very first time.  There is so much that goes into being an effective leader, and I know of no other or more effective place to learn than Scouting.  I often point out that we can (and should) be a boy-run Troop. This is something that we get better and better at every year, and I知 looking forward to working with the boys as they figure out how to make things happen.

Of course, they don稚 make things happen all by themselves.  We are very fortunate to have an active Troop Committee to provide all kinds of support and I have great depth of support from my Assistant Scoutmasters.  Without all of them, the program simply could not run.

Parents, I know that hardly any of us have any spare time, but I urge you to get involved with the Troop in some capacity.  You won稚 find a more rewarding thing to do!

Yours in Scouting,

Steve Innerfield
