Pack 189

Cub Scouting is a program for boys ages 7 - 10,
with specially designed activities and events for this important time.
We learn lots of new things, go on trips, and have lots of fun!

Tiger Cubs BSA The Tiger Cub program is for first grade (or age 7) boys and their adult partners. There are five Tiger Cub achievement areas. The Tiger Cub, working with his adult partner, completes 15 requirements within these areas to earn the Tiger Cub Badge. These requirements consist of an exciting series of indoor and outdoor activities just right for a boy in the first grade.

Cub Scouts- Boys in Grades 1-5 A family- and home-centered program for boys in the second through fifth grade (or 8, 9, and 10 years old). Cub Scouting's emphasis is on quality program at the local level, where the most boys and families are involved. Fourth- and fifth-grade (or 10-year-old) boys are called Webelos (WE'll BE LOyal Scouts) and participate in more advanced activities that begin to prepare them to become Boy Scouts.

As part of Zoo Adventures Month, Pack 189 went to the Bronx Zoo on September 30th. We were treated to a behind the scenes tour of the "World of Birds". We saw how interesting it was to take care of the birds. We had a great time

Pack 189 had a great time at our Healthy Halloween Pack Night on October 26, 2006. We were dressed in our costumes and had a howling good time.  Our Den Leaders, Howard, Liz, Brian, Bev, Beth and Rena put on a terrific party with games, crafts and really creepy (and good for you) food. Our Master of Ceremonies was our Cub Master Len who gave out the Bobcat rank to all who earned them. Our Unit Commissioner, Mike was there as well to give us our Summertime Award. Thanks goes to all parents who helped out with the party. Every scout went home with an award and memories of a Pack Night that they won't soon forget.

To end our Ships theme, Pack 189 spent November 4th, 2006 at the Whaling Museum of Cold Spring Harbor. They had an exhibit on Toys, Kids and Boats which was great. We saw a film on Whales and we went on a Treasure Hunt in the museum. Afterwards, we spent some time in the art room for games, puzzles and drawings. We saw the types of knots used on ships (some of which were shown to us by our big brothers of Troop 189).  Overall, we had a fun day at the Whaling Museum.

While the professional baseball players are at Spring Training, Pack 189 decided to take a close up look at where they play. On March 10th, Pack 189 took a tour of "The House That Ruth Built" better known as "Yankee Stadium" We went to the Press Box, the players Locker Room, the dugout, the field and Monument Park where all the great Yankees are honored. The tour guide told us some interesting facts about the Yankees and the history of Yankee Stadium. At the end, everyone was given a keepsake keychain. We highly recommend this tour. Even the Cub Master and Committee Chairperson enjoyed it, and they are Mets fans. Let's hope for another Subway Series!
