The November PLC meeting was held on Sunday 11/1 at Scoutmaster Steve’s house. All Patrols had a representative present.
SM Steve opened by asking for volunteers to help with a Webelos “Readyman” presentation Friday night 11/6. Taylor and Michael will help and several others are “possibles”.
SM Steve reminded everyone that pack checks will be starting this trip and if someone does not have the right equipment they will not be allowed to leave with the troop and their parents will have to drive them later. Using the Edge method, this month pack checks will be done by the ASMs with the Leadership Corps observing. For the December trip the pack checks will be made by the Leadership Corps, with ASMs observing.
ASPL Michael suggested a running interpatrol competition using a point system. The Scribe will keep scores and SM Steve will post the scores every week on the Troop web site. Twice a year the winning patrol will get a prize. The PLC unanimously approved this idea. Mike, Alex, and Taylor will work out the details.
The old “Big Brothering” idea was brought back up as a way to do skills sessions. The PLC was unanimously in favor of trying this out again, starting next meeting. ASPLs Alex and Michael will work together on pairing the Troop up.
For the November trip it was agreed that we will again run the Inter-Patrol Olympics. The Leadership Corps will man and set up the stations. Points scored will feed into the master point system.
PL Adam suggested that we plan for a High Adventure trip and gave several possibilities. There was a lot of discussion. SM Steve suggested that the PLC check some web sites and come to the next PLC ready to talk about ideas:
National Sea Base
Northern Tier
Philmont Scout Ranch
The Grand Canyon
Desolation Canyon
Alaska
Maine High Adventure
There are many other high adventure trips out there and we will have open discussion about anything the PLC finds. We agreed that this kind of trip will take a lot of fund raising and dedication. Try googling the phrase BSA High Adventure to get more ideas.
