Life Scout and Senior Patrol Leader Josh ran his Eagle Scout Service Leadership project on Sunday, May 18, 2007. For Josh’s project, teams of volunteers swarmed the historic but deeply overgrown Bayside Cemetery
For a number of reasons, the cemetery has fallen into deep disrepair. Josh coordinated with the religious congregation responsible for it, and got volunteers from several Scout Troops and his school. He coordinated with the New York City Department of Sanitation and with the Parks Department, and the project was a huge success!
The day of the project became rainy, but that didn’t dampen our spirits as 79 volunteers worked on this worthy project. Over 300 linear feet of railing was repainted, and while we had committed to clearing 2500 square feet of old gravesites, the teams actually did 3,000 square feet. Over 150 bags were set out for Sanitation to haul off.
This was everything that an Eagle Project should be!
