January

The PLC met on January 3.

In attendance were: SPL Charles, ASPLs Alex and Michael, Unicorns PL Christopher, King Kong PL Ryan, Penguins Acting  PL Billy, Scribe Taylor who also represented the Swordsmen, and Camo PL John and QM Eddie who contributed via text messages.

The meeting started with a Start/Stop/Continue focussed on the first half of the year. It was decided that we should:

1) Start doing more Advancement work, both at meetings and on trips. Use the “Big Brothers”

2) Start sticking to Duty Rosters and time schedules better

3) Continue with Cooking demos at meetings

4) Continue with some of the “Old School” Scout Skills such as tracking, trailing, mapping, and signaling

5) Continue the long-term InterPatrol competition

Upcoming dates and events were discussed, which include:

Jan 7    Rehearse Open House and Load Trailer
Jan 8-10 Trip to Alpine
Jan 14 Open House
Jan 16 Pequott Aquatic Meet
Jan 28 Troop Elections
Jan 29-31 Snow Tubing Trip
Feb 4  Winter Court of Honor
Feb 11 The first meeting where we can expect new Scouts

Discussion followed about the Open House plans.  Assignments are:

Swordsmen: Lashing
Camo: First Aid and also a model campsite. Taylor volunteered to assist building the model campsite
King Kong: Orienteering
Penguins: Teamwork
Unicorns: Cooking

John and Chris volunteered to serve the Troop as Guides in the Spring

There was an open discussion about the choice of the next SPL, since Charles will be aging out.  The last two times an SPL could not complete the full one year term, the ASPL became the SPL. Most people liked this, but some want to see new elections.  SM Steve will consider everyone’s input and advice.

All meetings are mostly planned up to the Feb 4 Court of Honor.  January 21 will be an Advancement focus night, which ASPL Michael will organize.

Charles briefed the PLC on the progress of his Eagle Project, which is now scheduled for the weekend of January 16 and 17 at the Norman Levy Park in Merrick.
