Jan 07 Snow Tubing

The weather had been so warm all winter that we weren’t sure if the snow tubing would happen, but Mother Nature cooperated and it got cold at the last minute... VERY cold, as any of the boys will tell you!

This was a trip that tested our Junior and Adult Leadership, as well as the boys in the Troop. Our original plans were to stay at Camp Yaw Paw, but when we got there we discovered problems with the chimney of the wood stove in our cabin.  There were no other cabins to handle a group of our size, and not having heat was simply not an option... so late Friday night our Trip Coordinator Andrea got onto the phone and rebooked us into one of our favorite campgrounds, Camp Glen Gray, which was also in the same area.

The Glen Gray staff was great and waited up for us to get there, and the Scouts proved to be flexible and good sports as we reloaded the gear, drove to another spot, and then had to set up all over again. It was a very late night!  Instead of one big cabin we had two smaller ones, but it all worked out fine. We were up Saturday morning and as you can see from the pictures, everybody had fun snow tubing. Saturday night we held a Council Fire MC’d by Josh and Drew, and we formally retired an old American Flag.

We also bid fond farewell to our SPL Andrew, because this was his last event with the Troop before he leaves to study abroad for a semester. All of the boys wished Drew well and thanked him for his guidance.  In return, Drew said that he hopes to see them all at the Waterfront this summer at Onteora, where he will be working again.
