The way our calendar worked out we got to fit in two trips in January. for the second trip of the month the PLC voted to try snow tubing.
We stayed in Connecticut in a cabin at Mattituck Scout Reservation so we could visit a nearby snow-tubing park. It was very cold when we got there Friday night, but that didn’t stop some of the older boys from taking a moonlight hike without flashlights. We were hoping to see a coyote by the light of the full moon, but had no luck... although there were plenty of turkey and deer tracks.
Saturday morning it was still very cold when we bundled up to go extreme tubing. The park had a number of different runs based on skill level, and everyone got to check them out. There were some pretty spectacular wipe-outs, but everyone (Scouts and Leaders alike) had fun. A lot of us were pretty sore Sunday morning, but is was worth it!
We got serious before bed Saturday night when SM Steve showed the older Scouts the BSA “Time to Tell” video on recognizing and preventing bullying and child abuse. We had a lot of good and open discussion about the ”3 R’s”, which are Recognize, Resist, and Report. Hopefully none of our Scouts will ever need any of this information, but we like our boys to “Be Prepared”.
Special thanks go out to our adult trip staff: SM Steve, ASMs Art, Mike V, Mike F (thanks for cooking us lunch!), Ed (thanks for towing our trailer), Larry and Andrea, Bonnie, and John.
CHECK BACK SOON FOR MORE PICTURES TO BE ADDED!
