Feb 07 Birding

For our February outing we did something a little different. Staying close to home, we visited the TR Sanctuary in Oyster Bay, which is run by the Audobon Society. We had a very productive day and the Aaron and Amanda from the TR Sanctuary did an excellent program. All the boys learned a lot about birds, we went on a bird walk, they learned how to properly use binoculars and we got to see the screech owl and a somewhat uncooperative hawk.  A good portion of our day was indoors so everyone stayed warm, although compared to the food drive last week, this was a heat wave.

In keeping with our February theme of “Public Service” we raked for them and filled their bird feeders for them. We also saw several different eagle projects there that different scouts had done.

Everyone did portions of the Bird Study merit badge. Beth Z is a counselor for this badge and is happy to work with any of them further on this.

Thanks to Paul G, Marjorie, Andrea, ASM Steve, Beth and Mike for coming with us and to Nancy S for helping us transport everyone.
