Battleship NJ

In December the Troop did something different, and “camped” on board the Battleship New Jersey, the most decorated American battleship.  The New Jersey was built in the Philadelphia shipyards in the late 1930’s through the mid ‘40s, and was in active service until the early ‘90s.  It sailed proudly in many campaigns, and today is a floating museum in Camden, New Jersey.

With other Scouts from up and down the East Coast we slept on board in real “racks” used by the sailors, and ate our meals in their mess.  We got an amazing guided tour of the ship, from the Admiral’s Bridge to the Gunnery Turrets to the Brig. Everyone learned sometghing and had a good time.

For the December trip this year, we slept on a Battle Ship for a night. The troop went on a flight simulator. We ate all of our meals on the ship, too. One of the favorite rooms on the battle ship was the Control Room.
