Alpine Jan 08

Alpine is a favorite spot for lots of reasons... the boys like the cabin and the indoor climbing wall, and the adults like that it’s such an easy drive... right over the GW Bridge into the Jersey Palisades.

Scoutmaster Steve had a bad cold and could only come out on Saturday but the great part about our Troop is that there are so many other trained adults who jump right in to help out.  Because of this the program ran smoothly and nothing was missed or left out. Saturday morning the Troop did lots of advancement work.  There were classes in all kinds of outdoor skills.  Some Scouts lashed and did knots, others did a compass and orienteering course, while still others worked with a field guide on tree identification.  Some of the older boys started working with JASM Andrew on their Paul Bunyon Woodsman award, and taught some newer Scouts their Toten Chip skills as part of their class.

In the afternoon we went over to the indoor climbing wall, and almost everyone climbed, including some Scouts who had never tried this before.  Some even had races to ring the bell at the top!

After dinner SM Steve ran the BSA “Time to Tell” program talking about child sexual abuse and we talked about the “3-Rs” -- Recognize, Resist, and Report.  It started to rain after dinner, but we had a brief fire anyway before we moved back into the cabin.
